The Early Years

Annelies Marie Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Her sister, Margot, was born three years earlier. The Frank family was Jewish, and Anne's father, Otto, was a successful businessman. The family lived a comfortable life in Frankfurt until the Nazis came to power in 1933.

The Secret Annex

In 1940, the Frank family was forced to flee their home and go into hiding. They moved into a secret annex behind Otto's business premises. The annex was a small, cramped space, and the Frank family had to live in constant fear of being discovered. Anne Frank kept a diary during her time in the Secret Annex. She wrote about her daily life, her hopes and dreams, and her fears. Anne's diary provides a unique glimpse into the life of a young girl living in hiding during the Holocaust.

Tragedy in Bergen-Belsen

In 1944, the Frank family was discovered by the Nazis. They were sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Anne and Margot died from typhus in February or March 1945, just weeks before the camp was liberated. Otto Frank was the only member of the family to survive the Holocaust.
