Auburn University Announces Hugh Freeze as New Head Football Coach
Hugh Freeze Named 31st Head Coach in Program History
Auburn University has named Hugh Freeze as the 31st head football coach in its 129-year history. Freeze, who was born on September 27, 1969, is an experienced head coach at the collegiate level.
Freeze's Previous Coaching Experience
Freeze previously served as the head coach at Ole Miss from 2012 to 2016, where he led the Rebels to a 39-25 record and three bowl victories. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Arkansas State from 2011 to 2012, where he went 10-5 and won the Sun Belt Championship.
Freeze's Resignation from Ole Miss
Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in July 2017 following a pattern of personal misconduct. He was found to have made inappropriate phone calls to a female escort service.
Auburn's Decision to Hire Freeze
Despite Freeze's previous misconduct, Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen believes he is the right man to lead the Tigers' football program. Cohen praised Freeze's coaching experience and his ability to connect with players and fans.
