Chelsea Reclaim Top Spot in Women's Super League with Controversial Penalties

Reiten Nets Two, Cuthbert Seals Clinical Win

Chelsea 3, Everton 0

Chelsea regained their place at the summit of the Women's Super League with a decisive 3-0 victory over Everton, thanks to two controversial penalties converted by Guro Reiten and a clinical finish from Erin Cuthbert. The Blues now hold a three-point lead over their closest rivals with just four games remaining.

Reiten opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 27th minute with a coolly taken penalty, awarded after Everton defender Danielle Turner was adjudged to have brought down Sam Kerr. The second spot-kick was awarded in the 72nd minute, with Reiten once again stepping up to convert. The decision to award the penalty was contentious, with many believing Everton goalkeeper Emily Ramsey had made a clean tackle on Fran Kirby.

Cuthbert put the game beyond doubt in the 83rd minute with a composed finish into the bottom corner, securing the three points for Emma Hayes' side. Chelsea's victory was a ruthless display of their attacking prowess, exposing Everton's defensive frailties. The Blues now have their destiny in their own hands as they bid to retain their Women's Super League title.
